Redef's CS 1.4 Thoughts

After playing CS 1.4 for a while I thought about doing a little preview (what’s a NDA anyway?), and so here I am. I’ve read a lot of ‘newb’ comments where they bashed CS 1.4 for various reasons, though I’m certain that most or all of them haven’t actually played it. Note worthy improvements include:
No more BS headshots
Cheat prevention/detection (though I have not yet seen the effectiveness of this)
Green colored ‘BOMB’ indicator text (as opposed to the previous red, easier to see)
Two very sweet new maps (and possibly three by release)
Jumping (after one jump your momentum is killed, you can jump around corners but can’t pull stupid pistol jumping techniques)
Removal of +moveup/down trick
Removal of +use awp trick
Improved Para recoil
Nifty new spectator options
Bodies that stay on the ground
And…Valve’s Tracker
Most interesting is easily the Tracker. This tool is essentially valve’s version of ICQ. With the Tracker you have yet another piece of instant messaging software on your desktop, but with a twist. It operates fully in-game, allowing you to see where your friends are playing and giving you the ability to communicate with them while you or they are in-game. I was very skeptical about this first, but have found it to be incredibly convenient (no more annoying mIRC scripts to tell your friends where you are playing). However, there is one draw back. You can communicate with your friend while they are dead, giving you them the ability to alert you to the enemy’s location and stats (no idea whether this will be changed in the future or not).
